VIA in Education
We hear a lot about what’s wrong with education these days, but most of us know there are many good schools, teachers and students “out there”. Fortunately, the VIA Institute on Character captured some exceptionally positive work being done in a school in Salt Lake City, UT. Fourth grade teacher, Jay Sharp, has infused his curriculum with character-strengths. Focusing on concepts like courage, perseverance, humor, kindness, vitality, gratitude, etc., he and his students have created a culture of learning that has built confidence, increased motivation, improved performance and elevated love of learning to the point that it extends far beyond the classroom.

behind-the-scenes videos:
Mary has workied with LifeQuest Transitions - a non-profit that helps wounded soldiers transition back to duty or to their communities. She helped program the Soldier Songwriting Retreat where musicians Darden Smith, Radney Foster, Jay Clementi and Georgia Middleman worked with veterans to express their experiences through music. Unbelievable outcomes... the songs from the first retreat were performed at a special 9/11 event concert. (Mary wrote the script and co-directed the event.) Songs from the January event will be produced to complete the full CD! For more info: www.MyLQ.org
